ADAGE Hosts Discussion of Wood-Waste Biopower Development at RETECH 2009

Discussion focuses on energy security and job creation from biopower

Las Vegas, Feb. 26, 2009 — ADAGE hosted a panel discussion today at the RETECH 2009 Conference entitled "A Shovel-Ready Solution: Wood-Waste Biopower." Reed Wills, President of ADAGE, led the discussion of the advantages and challenges to using biopower as a renewable energy source and a long-term economic stimulant for communities across the country.

"Municipalities that plan for and invest in biopower today will be able to provide a sustainable source of energy to their residents and offer them the green collar jobs of tomorrow," said Wills, who delivered opening and closing remarks at the discussion. "Biopower is the rare energy solution that is both completely renewable and a consistent source of baseload power for the electricity grid. Our distinguished panel offered varied points of view on the promise of biopower — and the tremendous benefits which can come from increased awareness of and investment in this great resource."

This conference comes at a time when states and municipalities around the country are facing challenging new Renewable Portfolio Standards. Lawmakers and policy officials are eager to explore efficient and cost-effective solutions to meet challenging new metrics.

The discussion was moderated by Llewellyn King, host and executive director of the PBS program "White House Chronicle" and founder of The Energy Daily. Participants included Edmund Gee, USDA Forest Service Chair of the Woody Biomass Utilization Group & Partnership Coordinator; Geoff Morgan, Partner and Chair of the Michael Best and Friedrich LLP Business Practice Group & Co-Chair of the firm's Renewable Energy Focus Group; William Siderewicz, Managing Director for Pure Energy Communications; and Jim Spaeth, U.S. Department of Energy Director of Commercialization & Project Management for the Golden Field Office. The RETECH Conference is an annual event hosted by the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), a Washington D.C.-based non-profit organization.
